Chris Howard, PE is relocating from ccrd Dallas to staff the new office. He is a mechanical engineer, with an Architectural Engineering degree from Kansas State University, and has been with ccrd since 2003. The firm has multiple projects currently in design in Kansas, Missouri and Iowa.

For the third consecutive year, ccrd is proud to have three recipients of this honor. Greg Gehrt (ccrd Houston), Mark Montgomery (ccrd Denver) and Nolan Rome (ccrd Phoenix) are enjoying the honor this year.

The May issue of Consulting-Specifying Engineer profiles each young professional, highlighting circumstances that led him/her to success, recent professional projects, and personal achievements. Candidates were nominated by a professional colleague or mentor and judged based on commitment to excellence in a variety of areas.

“Everyone at ccrd congratulates Greg, Mark and Nolan. It is remarkably gratifying to see these three young men being recognized not only for their diligent efforts on ccrd’s national laboratory and healthcare projects but also the community work they donate their time to as well,” said Rick Rome, PE, President of ccrd partners.

Shaun Grimm, PE, Associate Principal, ccrd Phoenix

Mr. Grimm was the lead electrical engineer for Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin, Texas, the only LEED Platinum hospital in the world. In 2009, Shaun was a guest speaker for the ASHE Phoenix Children’s Hospital Central Plant Tour. Notably, Shaun served as lead engineer on the Phoenix Children’s Hospital project. In 2010, Shaun was recognized by Consulting-Specifying Engineer Magazine as one of the industry’s top 40 engineers under 40.

Jared Machala, PE, LEED AP, Associate Principal, ccrd Houston

Mr. Machala is a lead mechanical engineer in ccrd’s Houston office. Jared’s portfolio includes numerous high containment facilities including BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories. He also manages the design of radiochemistry laboratories, clean rooms and cGMP facilities. Jared has also worked on several LEED projects including laboratories.

Mark Montgomery, PE, LEED AP, Associate Principal, ccrd Denver

In 2008, Mr. Montgomery was asked to help start the Denver office where he currently serves as office manager and lead electrical engineer. Mark is the project manager for phase 1 of the Castle Rock Adventist Health Center in Castle Rock, Colorado, due for completion in 2013 with a 30-year master plan for growth. Recently, Mark spoke at the 2011 National ASHE Practice and Design Conference on “Taxing the Infrastructure: An Emergency Power Point of View.”

Nolan Rome, PE, LEED AP, Associate Principal, ccrd Phoenix

The firm recognized Mr. Rome’s dedication and leadership capabilities, and in 2007 he was asked to help start the Phoenix office where he currently serves as office manager and lead mechanical engineer. Nolan was the project manager for the recently completed and highly acclaimed Phoenix Children’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Nolan was a speaker at the 2010 National Green Build Conference on the topic of “Sustainability in Healthcare.”

Randy’s highly regarded global experience covers a broad range of commercial, industrial, institutional and transportation facilities. His expertise includes fire safety master plans, smoke control systems design and testing and evaluation of fire resistance of structural assemblies. With the addition of Randy to our team, ccrd partners will be expanding our Fire Protection capabilities and adding Life Safety analysis and design services to our existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering systems design service offerings.

Throughout his industrious career, Randy has presented and facilitated seminars on fire safety topics to building owners, developers, code officials, architects, engineers and security analysts. He has been published in numerous industry magazines and journals and is currently an editorial adviser for Building Design + Construction magazine. “My goal is to apply my knowledge of fire protection and life safety to build a practice that will complement the existing services provided by ccrd partners,” said Tucker.

“Randy and I have had a longstanding relationship over the past 30 years. He became the Manager of the Houston office of Rolf Jensen & Associates around the same time ccrd partners was founded. I have always held my working relationship with Randy in high esteem and I’m most excited to welcome Randy as a member of the ccrd partners’ team,” said David Duthu, PE, Board Principal, ccrd partners.

Randy’s professional affiliations include: Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) – Fellow; Educational and Scientific Foundation – Board of Governors; National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) – Life Member/Board of Directors; U.S. Department of Commerce – Houston District Export Council; International Code Council; Urban Land Institute; and the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) – Fellow/Life Member & past National President.

Prior to joining ccrd partners, Randy spent the majority of his career with Rolf Jensen & Associates and most recently held the position of Chief Strategy Officer/Chief Technical Officer. Randy holds a Master of Management degree from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
