Parkland-Hospital-450

ccrd is always looking for opportunities to add value and collaborate on healthcare-related engineering projects. The Parkland Health & Hospital System project was just that sort of opportunity. This massive project includes the replacing of the existing 54-year old Parkland Memorial Hospital with a new 862-bed full service acute care hospital. Currently, the largest hospital construction project in the United States, the Parkland campus is located within the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical District and serves as a teaching hospital for the UTSW School of Medicine.

The $1.27 billion project represents a 38 percent increase in bed space compared to the current facility. The 2.5-million-square-foot campus will feature a 17-story, 1.7 million sq ft acute-care hospital with 862 patient rooms including 96 private neonatal intensive care beds. A 380,000-sq-ft outpatient center; 275,000-sq-ft office center; parking for 2,000 vehicles; and a central energy plant.

The entire hospital will be designed with the patient in mind. This patient-centered approach will create a more healing environment with the use of single patient rooms, natural light and windows as well as more space for family and visitors. The facility will be adaptable and capable of meeting the future medical needs of the community. In addition to utilizing green building methods and energy sources, the project anticipates achieving LEED-silver certification, with a stretch goal of LEED-gold.

As Commissioning Authority, ccrd’s scope includes full ASHRAE Guideline 0 Cx process including both Basic and Enhanced LEED Commissioning. The scope includes PEER level design reviews and Architectural Building envelope commissioning. All documentation is with our electronic web based System (QuiCx) using field tablet computers for real time onsite testing documentation.
